Elizabeth E. Reczek, PhD, Co-Founder and CEO of Sempresto was featured this week as a guest on League Med’s 5X5 Podcast. In the episode, host Kate Morgan interviews Dr. Reczek on her path to becoming a biotech CEO, the personal story behind Sempresto’s founding, and the company’s work building a magnetically-attached, smartphone-integrated epinephrine autoinjector designed to keep rescue medication within reach at all times.

The conversation traces the origin of Sempresto’s core technology to co-founder Dr. Edmund Pribitkin, Chief Physician Executive at Jefferson Health, whose daughter refused to carry her epinephrine auto-injector to her prom. That moment led Dr. Pribitkin to design a slimmer alternative built to attach to the back of a smartphone using the same magnetic technology found in modern phone cases. Dr. Reczek, who manages her own and her daughter’s food allergies, joined Dr. Pribitkin and co-founder Shawn Marcell to launch Sempresto in 2024.

During the episode, Dr. Reczek discusses data showing that more than 60 percent of patients do not have epinephrine on hand when an allergic reaction occurs, and explains how Sempresto’s device is designed to function like a standard auto-injector once removed from its magnetic case, minimizing the learning curve for patients already familiar with EpiPen or Auvi-Q. She also outlines the company’s intellectual property position, its planned FDA submission under the 505(b)(2) pathway in early 2028, and its vision for the platform beyond epinephrine, including potential future applications for glucagon, seizure and migraine medications, and naloxone.

“Patients shouldn’t have to choose between carrying their rescue medication and living their daily lives,” said Reczek. “Once it’s attached to your phone, you’re going to take it with you everywhere you go — and your epinephrine goes with you.”
